PRESIEDENTIAL ANTI-GRAFT COMMISSION (PAGC)
PRESS RELEASE 24 August 2007
PAGC: NO 90 CASES PENDING AT OP
The Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC) clarifies that the reported 90 cases pending before the Office of the President which came out in the front page of the Philippine Daily Inquirer today was grossly inaccurate.
"The reporter probably misunderstood the figures," PAGC Director Charito Alvarado said. "I mentioned that 92 cases were resolved and forwarded to OP by PAGC in 2006 and because of the support of the President herself, we were able to further beefed up our investigative capability thus as of August 2007, for only seven months and a half, PAGC already resolved 96 cases, surpassing last years," Alvarado added.
Per PAGC records, as of August 23, 2007, 36 cases are currently pending before OP; however, according to the Office of the Executive Secretary another affirmation of a punitive case is already in transit.
From 2006, OP already resolved 23 cases with punitive recommendations; causing the dismissal of 15 and suspension of 6 officials. Another 2 officials were reprimanded and slapped with accessory penalties.
"We acknowledge that OP reviews a lot of cases other than those from PAGC and those should also be given an equal amount of attention; hence it may be unfair to say that OP is sitting on the cases; however we are continuously in touch with them to find ways and means on how to further improve the case handling system" Chairman Constancia De Guzman said. "the fight against graft and corruption is hard enough, and we cannot solve this by pointing fingers that's why we at PAGC just focus on our jobs and do the best we can" she added. # |
